ABOUT KENNETH D. HANKS

I am a Mississippi-based photographer drawn to dramatic light, quiet moments, historic places, and the stories that remain after most people have already walked past.

My work is rooted largely in the Mississippi Gulf Coast and New Orleans, but the subject matters less to me than what it represents. I am interested in photographs that carry a sense of place, memory, resilience, solitude, movement, or change.

I have always believed that a successful photograph should be a mirror, not a window. I do not want an image to simply show you what I saw. I want it to give you enough room to bring something of yourself to it.

Whether I am photographing a lighthouse at sunrise, a weathered pier, a streetcar in New Orleans, a musician, a working boat, or the night sky, I am looking for more than documentation. I am looking for the moment when a scene begins to say something.

My fine art prints are professionally produced and personally inspected by me before they are approved for delivery. If my name is on a finished piece, I want to be proud of what leaves my hands.
